Get to know him below as he gives you an insight to who he is, what led him to Hip Hop music and where he plans on bringing it.
IceBurghSociety.com: Where are you from?
Leondro: I'm from the west end of Toronto.
IceBurghSociety.com: What got you into music?
Leondro: Music has always been a part of my life. Both my Dad and my brother were DJ’s so I’ve always been exposed to music in some form, but there was a turning point when I was about 12. My god brother, a well-known Toronto artist, took me to the studio and just watching him sing and lay down a track was inspiring. It made me realize that that was what I wanted to do with my life – record music.
IceBurghSociety.com: How would you describe yourself as an artist?
Leondro: I’m me. I have my own sound. My own flow. My own process for how I put a song together. I take influences from various genres of music and use certain qualities to create something that is fundamentally Leondro. That’s what makes me unique.
IceBurghSociety.com: What led to your style of delivery and beat-selection?
Leondro: I think it all goes back to listening to my Dad and brother DJ-ing and mixing songs. I grew up listening to a lot of Reggae music which encompasses so many different styles of music. It taught me how to analyze and dig into the structure of songs and come up with a formula that I use when writing, creating and rapping.
IceBurghSociety.com: How do you think you differ from other artists?
Leondro:Because I’m me. I’m happy with myself as an individual, I’m happy with my sound and I’m happy with the music I create because it’s unique. No one is the same as me and that’s what makes me different.
IceBurghSociety.com: Who influenced your style?
Leondro: I have a few sides to my influences. Obviously there’s the Reggae influence from my family and people like Beres Hammond, Beenie Man and Sanchez. Being partially raised in Florida, I listened to a lot of Southern Hip Hop and artists like Cash Money, Project Pat, Gucci Mane and Young Jeezy. At the same time living in Toronto exposed me to so much East Coast Hip Hop and rappers like The Diplomats, Jay Z and 50 Cent. You can hear all these influences in my music.
IceBurghSociety.com: What ‘s the most important item in your music collection?
Leondro: I would say I have a few important items in my collection. When I was younger I started collecting physical albums from the people who influenced me the most. I’ve kept all these albums wrapped and in perfect condition. I have an original copy of Gucci Mane’s “Writings on the Wall 2”, Juelz Santana’s “What the Game’s Been Missing!”, 50 Cent’s “Get Rich or Die Tryin’”, Jay Z’s “Reasonable Doubt” and so many more. There’s too many to list.
IceBurghSociety.com: Dead or alive, who would be your dream collaboration?
Leondro: The one and only Notorious BIG. I know that he has a Jamaican background and I can hear that in his wordplay and the way that he flows in his music.
IceBurghSociety.com: What's the most successful or highest point in your career?
Leondro: The first time that I heard myself on the radio. I was driving home from work and there was "Love Me So Good" playing on the station I was listening to. It was such a high point that I even recorded. You are only on the radio for the first time once in your career and to have already experienced that is incredible.
IceBurghSociety.com: What do you have planned coming up, and do you have any Final Shout-Outs?
Leondro: My focus right now is releasing new music and going on tour. I’m so excited to share what I’ve been working on and I want people to hear what is next for Leondro.
