SONG OF THE WEEK - Staalin "Grand Entrance" (Toronto, ON)
Spring is on its way back, signifying a new change in the environment, and with music, you definitely start to see the changes as well. Its like all the heavy hitters are awakening from their hibernation to bring through music with a lot of aggression, energy and competition which is needed in the industry. Too many things have been allowed to pass in the past year, and it's time to stop letting the BS slide, so please welcome the SONG OF THE WEEK.
The SONG of the WEEK goes to Toronto MC's Staalin's battle cry "Grand Entrance". Once the beat drops, you understand what is going on, it gives off a Rocky-esque feel like the war has finally been waged, if I had to use one word to describe it, it would be "triumphant". First four bars of the chorus holds no punches, "Fxck Drake, and any rapper that sound like him/y'all soundbiting like vampires, my dogs lychen/no Jacob, y'all make up you're reciting/probably using eyeliner when you're writing, I ain't even writing". Staalin's coming for the heads of anyone who feels riding the OVO wave is the way of Toronto, and lyrically through the song, he beats the copycats all down bar by bar. Take in this song, but be careful, you don't want to listen to this while driving or working heavy machinery.
